Investment Approach

We work with our clients to develop an investment policy statement that matches financial resources to financial goals. The investment policy statement then provides the framework for managing your investments and outlines the strategy we believe will provide the best chance of reaching the goals identified in your financial plan.

Asset Allocation
Oak Street Advisors utilizes a flexible approach to asset allocation. The actual asset allocations to an asset's class or investment vehicle will change depending on market conditions. The portion of an individual portfolio allocated to an investment represents an approximate upper limit , but the actual allocation could be as low as zero from time to time. In fact, there may be times when a portfolio will be allocated 100% to money market or other very short term liquid investments.

Investment Location
The tax-characteristics of Traditional IRAs are different from Roth IRAs-- and those are different from brokerage accounts. Every account used at Oak Street Advisors holds investments that minimize our clients' tax bills.

For example, if a client needs to keep taxable-income low to facilitate Roth conversions, we do not want to produce income in a brokerage account. We'd recommend income producing investment vehicles be placed in tax-free or tax-deferred accounts.

Our Portfolios

We work to match each client's needs to an appropriate investment strategy.
Core ETF Strategy
For core portfolios, we utilize a combination of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and a small portion of open-end mutual funds in our Core ETF portfolio. The Core portfolio provides broad factor based diversification and exposure to multiple equity market segments within your designated asset allocation. Oak Street Advisors uses commission-free ETFs to add further value to our clients.

Dividend Income
For clients who need income from their investments we provide our Dividend Income portfolio. This portfolio seeks to invest in companies that maintain steady and rising dividend yields in order to provide reliable retirement income.

Growth
For clients needing long term growth of capital we offer our Growth portfolio which seeks to invest in companies and industries that Oak Street Advisors believe will provide above average reward to patient investors.
